Current local grant & funding opportunities for businesses

Many local authorities are providing grants to businesses looking to reduce their impact on the environment, provide help for business energy bills and invest in technology that reduces emissions and contributes towards Net Zero.


Working with customers throughout the UK helps us to maintain a list of some of the current funding schemes that are available.

Coventry

The Net Zero Grant Programme (NZGP) is open to small to medium sized businesses, based within or locating to, the Coventry City Council.


Business grant funding is available up to £100K and grants will cover energy and resource efficiency improvements to business premises. This includes solar panels.

Birmingham

The Net Zero Grant Programme (NZGP) is open to small to medium sized businesses, based within or locating to, the Birmingham City Council or Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council area.


Business grant funding is available up to £100K and grants will cover energy and resource efficiency improvements to business premises. This includes solar panels.

Derby

The Peak Innovation SME Innovation grant aims to increase private sector investment in growth-enhancing activities. Through targeted support for small and medium-sized businesses this grant aims to help them undertake new-to-firm innovation; adopt productivity-enhancing, energy efficient and low carbon technologies and techniques; and start or grow their exports.


Grants available from £1,000 to £10,000.

Norfolk & Suffolk

New Anglia’s Business Transition to Net Zero Grant is aimed at businesses in Norfolk and Suffolk with ambitions to reduce their carbon footprint and increase productivity.


Grants available from between £25k and £100k.

Suffolk’s £1,000k ‘Net Zero Innovation Fund’ will provide grants for businesses to innovate solutions that will drive the county towards its net zero target.

Nottingham, Rushcliffe

The Rushcliffe Accelerator is a business support project designed to help businesses across Rushcliffe to start, sustain, grow and innovate. The project, which runs until 31 March 2025, offers support to all businesses across the district in a number of ways.


This includes grant funding to help grow, increase efficiencies and build a sustainable business for the future.

Somerset

North Somerset Council’s Net Zero Business Grants Programme offers capital grants of up to £30,000 to install renewables and energy efficiency measures. Grants are available to Community Interest Companies and eligible small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) with a registered trading address within North Somerset.

Nationwide Government Incentives and Policies Supporting Solar Energy Storage

The UK government offers several incentives to support businesses investing in renewable energy:

Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a government scheme that pays businesses for exporting excess solar power to the grid. The amount earned per kWh exported varies based on the tariff, but typically earns businesses around 5p.

Climate change agreements are voluntary agreements made between UK industry and the Environment Agency to reduce energy use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In return, operators receive a discount on the Climate Change Levy (CCL), a tax added to electricity and fuel bills. The Environment Agency administers the CCA scheme on behalf of the whole of the UK.
